We are pleased to be part of the Staffordshire Minor Eye Condition Scheme (MECS).
The Minor Eye Conditions Scheme (MECS) provides assessment and treatment for people with recently occurring eye related symptoms and minor eye conditions.
Patients can self-refer to the scheme and the appointments are free of charge to those registered with a North Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent GP.
This scheme is designed to reduce the pressure on GP and hospital resources and at this time is absolutely critical to allow those precious front line staff to focus their efforts on supporting the most vulnerable in our community.
Eye-related symptoms and minor eye conditions that can be treated / assessed by the service include:
o Red eye
o Eyelid lumps and bumps
o Dry eye or gritty and uncomfortable eyes
o Irritation and inflammation of the eye
o Significant recent sticky discharge from the eye or watery eye
o Recently occurring flashes and floaters
o Painful eye
o Ingrowing eyelashes
o Recent and sudden loss of vision
o Foreign bodies in the eye or a scratch
* Priority appointments and extended opening hours are available for Key Workers ( please inform us of this at the time of booking)
The MECS service at Glyn Jones is provided by our three resident specially trained and accredited optometrists – Tom Brocklebank, Ian Hamilton and John Clements. We are part of a group of 22 Opticians across North Staffordshire that the MECS service.
The current uncertainty is troubling for all of us but we want to make sure that issues with your vision don’t add to those concerns.
